Job Description

Summary -

Provides technical expertise through product/solution management, business plans, Products/Solutions presentations, product demonstrations, and solution training of IT products and services in the field of Big Data Analytics, Cloud/IaaS, Hyper Converged Infrastructure, OpenStack solutions etc.  The individual will manage NEC’s data center platform (Micro Module Server, High Density Server and Enterprise Server) as core technologies, and then develop solutions by creating partnerships within and outside of our organization and company to integrate NEC’s IT Platform products into a packaged solution.  The individual will act as a key player working with cross functional teams, collaborating with NEC Japan, product management, and other departments to ensure that milestones and objectives are achieved.  May provide follow-up support to  partner  and customer personnel by disseminating technical information on specific applications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities -

40% - Product Management

Responsible for all Product Management aspects of NEC’s Micro Module Server (DX series), High Density Server (D120 series) and Enterprise Server (CX series) and new IT platform appliances for the new IT solutions in North America including:

1. Collecting and understanding the customer’s needs (directly, or through sales or partners) as well as competitive product information (directly, or through sales, partners, and analysts).

2. Development and ownership of the Marketing Requirements Document (MRD) which includes:

a) Product Vision: To identify and solidify a product vision through the collaboration of key management and industry visionaries.  The product vision includes a SWOT analysis and takes into consideration the resources available or potentially available within the company.

b) Market Identification & Opportunity: Outlines the TAM (Total Available Market) and identifies the specific segments which the product will penetrate.  This can include specific industries, or more generally, cross-industry common problems needing to be solved by the product.  Also, identifies targeted market penetration with top line and bottom line financial contribution.

c) Product Positioning: Defines positioning (i.e., how we want the target market to “perceive” the product).  Product positioning includes the establishment of: Competitive product differentiation/positioning(s); Unique selling propositions (USP); or Key features and benefits. Product positioning must be established for each new version of each product produced.  Add-on components for a product do not need separate product positioning defined.  The full product positioning is specified in a Product Positioning Document (PPD).

d.) Product Definition: Defines the product in terms of orderable items and pricing using the competitive analysis for justification of market pricing. This includes details used by manufacturing and service to fulfill the delivery of the product against orders. 

e.) Warranty & Service Programs:  Defines the base warranty levels required to support the product as well as the optional service programs available for premium service.

f.) Cross Divisional Interaction: Defines the organizations that are required to support the product and identifies the schedule of interaction.  

g.) Pricing:  Defines pricing strategy, with discounts for channels as well as promotional (demo systems) and associated terms.

3. Inventory Management:  Works with staff to reviews and modify the monthly production forecast submitted by Sales, appraises and provides factory forecast.  Manages the inventory and provides direction regarding end of life as well as inventory reserves to finance.

4. Training:  Responsible for the definition, direction and execution of sales training material.

5. Recommending process and service changes, designed to improve customer experience

6. Leads project teams to achieve program milestones and objectives

30% - New IT Solution Development

Responsible for new IT solution development for new NEC revenue opportunities, allowing NEC to gain overall market share in North America. Initial targeting IT solutions are 1) Big Data Analytics including Machine Learning and Predictive Analytics solution, 2) Cloud/IaaS/BaaS infrastructure solution, 3) Hyper Converged Infrastructure solution, 4) OpenStack appliance and infrastructure solution 5) SAP HANA Vora, Hadoop solution etc. based on NEC’s unique data center platform (Micro Module Server, High Density Server and Enterprise Server) integrating with other NEC’s IT products/solutions. Monitors the competitive landscape and understands our potential customers’ ongoing needs, then identifies and develops market strategies.  Provides recommendations to lead the organization with solutions to address NEC’s competition.  Seeks out, researches and nurtures solution partner relationships through self-initiated outreach including: telephone calls; travel; attendance at conferences and trade events; and utilizing the internet to develop a list of solutions and partners.  Once identified, the individual will be responsible to:

 - Develop proposed target system solution and value proposition;

 - Develop business plan framework (including SWOT) justifying engagement;

 - Develop engagement plan by creating strategy to establish and build partner relationships including: organization charts, identifying key individuals, and build time lines to evaluate the joint NEC technology solution; and

- Present/review strategy with NEC management to gain approval.

10% - Technical Support for NECAM sales, SE and marketing team

Responsible to technical support for NECAM’s Product Marketing and Sales/SE team including;

1. Working closely with the Corporate Marketing staff to ensure production information and positioning is appropriately described through NEC communication vehicles.

2. Developing technical white papers that describe the advanced features and case studies associated with the technical design philosophy of the NEC’s new IT solutions (Big Data Analytics, Cloud/IaaS, HCI and OpenStack appliance, SAP HANA Vora etc.), and the value of the products (Micro Module Server, High Density Server and Enterprise Server etc).

3. Attending industry events and act as a subject matter expert and visionary for the company

4. Work closely with NECAM Sales/SE to provide and deliver products/solutions presentations and competitive positioning

6. Work closely with 3rd parties’ engineering team to develop best practice guide supporting target applications

7. Generate products/Solution tip sheets used by partners as well as monthly products/solutions information update for sales and partners

8. To assist in product customer acceptance through a Customer Evaluation Program in order to find all possible product problems before shipping

10% - Provides training to Engineering, Technical Support, Sales Engineering, Sales, and partners, including resellers of our products and services.

5% - Provides input to the management team and NEC Japan on leading edge technologies, products, and services to meet current and future customer needs.

Prerequisites -

Education:

BS in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field

Experience:

Minimum 5-7 years experience in IT industry, responsible for multiple products and solutions.

Minimum 3 years hands-on experience in Backup/Recovery and Archive

Specialized Knowledge and Skills -

Language Skills:

Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal, including technical writing and the ability to create and deliver clear, concise presentations. Professional appearance and presentations required in front of small and large audiences.

Mathematical Skills:

Skilled in math application and sales plan development

Reasoning Skills:

Must be a self-starter and able to work independently, yet able to work with all levels in the organization. Must be highly organized; productive on tight schedules; understand complex sales and product solution environments where partners as well as end users are involved; and determine the most effective approach to success.

Computer and/or Technical Skills:

Understanding of Server; Storage; Software; Network; Operating Systems and Communication products. Must understand virtualization technology. Must be competent with MS-Office, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
