We are currently looking for an experienced software engineering executive with customized application/solution development skills in federal, state/city, enterprise and critical infrastructure market. This is an opportunity to lead a team of talented software engineers to architect, design, and develop biometrics enabled solutions to enhance public safety and convenience. NEC Advanced Recognition Systems is a client centric organization requiring a great deal of flexibility in understanding customer requirements and delivering solutions to meet customer satisfaction. 

As Director of Software Development, you will provide strong, day-to-day leadership, support, and guidance to the Software Development organization by driving customized application development process, technical strategy, production support, and resource management. The overall focus of Software Development is to create customized solutions per client requirements, ensure solution quality, and meet time-to-market needs. The Software Development function is responsible for interaction with cross functional system integration teams, engage customers, business enhancements, and technical improvements to existing solutions as well as delivery of new projects and solutions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage our customized solution development team.
  • Understand, analyze, and resolve issues that impact development success including development processes, staffing, technical strategies, and solutions.
  • Provide technical vision to the Software Development organization, balanced with the delivery of enhancements to maintain a client centric environment while improving overall code reuse, supportability, and efficiency.
  • Successfully negotiate strategic decisions and other issues which affect the business internally and externally.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to all level of staff in the Software Development organization.
  • Demonstrate leadership and vision in determining and driving strategy decisions, process changes, business initiatives, daily execution disciplines, management and measure of metrics and KPIs to drive productivity, etc.
  • Be a recognized expert, and exercises wide latitude in, determining own objectives and best approaches to solving critical problems and fulfilling business needs.
  • Be seen as a leader and subject matter expert by others in the Software Development organization both in terms of full stack and full process.
  • Flexibility in understanding customer requirements and delivering solutions to meet customer satisfaction.

Qualifications and REQUIREMENTS

  • 15+ years of progressive management experience in a software development environment.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience leading teams of developers and in software engineering
  • Prior experience in leading agile process to deliver bespoke applications or solutions is required.
  • Prior experience in customizing or integrating solutions using existing platform and products, experience in tier-one system integration companies is preferred.
  • Experience in MBIS, AFIS or related technology or experience in related companies is preferred.
  • Experience in biometrics technologies like fingerprint, face and iris solution development is preferred.
  • Expertise in gathering requirements and documenting user needs, modeling requirements through User Stories and other means, and expertise with agile estimating and planning.
  • Interface with key project stakeholders like management, cross functional team leadership, offshore and onsite teams, R&D, customers and project managers is required.
  • Must be a comfortable communicating and presenting with all levels within the company with a business-first and technically competent argument.
  • Extensive technical experience developing application on full stack of Java/J2EE, .NET, C++,C#, Jboss, JBPM, Apache, Oracle, MS SQL, and related technologies is important.
  • Bachelor’s degree or Masters degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field from an accredited college or university.

Additional CRITERIA

Current Active or Ability to obtain security clearance in city, state and federal law enforcement agencies.

Ability to travel (5 to 20%) to meet customers and partners
